On our ruins

…The state of abandonment subjugates by this notion of time that separates us from it, otherwise by the hold of natural elements that inevitably take hold of it, as if to endow the meaning of history with a tragic beauty. Whatever the origin, from ancient cities to mining towns, industrial areas, abandoned quarries, transformed ports, sunken cities, so much make us dream of the stories we have heard, so much bring the myths to life, so much represent our fragility, the time that escapes us, the little that we are. The ruins are the immutable witnesses which invade us with rumours, messengers of beauty and torpor. The ruins tell us that we are transhumant on our own defeats…
